The Gift

"The Gift" by Steven Amundson (2007)

Commissioned by the family of Amundson's former student, Eric Drotning, who suddenly lost his life in 2005, The Gift is a beautiful meditative work for full orchestra. The work is based on a motive derived from Eric's name (ECDG) and quotes the hymn O Day Full of Grace. About 8 minutes in length, The Gift was composed in January, 2008 and it is one of Amundson's most emotionally engaging works.
